About Petra Elliott
A sassy singer and actress based in Melbourne, with experience in drama, puppetry, musical theatre, podcasting, theatre for kids, improvisation short film, and singing live with dj’s as well as playing her original songs accompanied by keys or guitar.
Experience
Petra Elliott has worked in many areas of performance. Since completing a BA in acting earlier this century, Petra has explored theatre for children, contact impro, puppetry, and improvisation skills used in live performance, including development of a theatre in education project for YWCA Scope.
In 2015 Petra played in Chapel Off Chapel theatre as the lead character in Neil Cole’s latest production Joan Baez: Road to Woodstock. During the year she filmed with Rock Bottom Productions TV series Sonnigsburg in which Petra plays Jade Novak. The series is to be released in late 2015.
In 2014 Petra was a creator and voice artist in a scripted sci-fi audio series Night Terrace, playing the mysterious and enigmatic âSueâ. Starring Jackie Woodburne and a host of Australia’s best performers, it won the Aurealis Convenors’ Award for Excellence. Petra first appeared alongside Splendid Chaps Ben Mckenzie and John Richards as a co-host in the âSmash Hitâ Live Doctor Who podcast celebration running throughout 2013.
Petra premiered her first solo cabaret show, âPetrasexualâ in April 2014, at the new Richmond venue âKaDo Warehouseâ.
In February 2012 Petra joined La Mamma/ FLW Theatre to play ‘Catherine’ in Inside Out at the Carlton Courthouse, and appeared in the Melbourne Museum Comedy Tour, and Who killed John Bearington III for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in April.
Theatre highlights include Sissy (then) in Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, Dinah in Brighton Beach Scumbags, Lucy in 3 Points of Contact, Eve Ensler in The Vagina Monologues, Emilia in Othello, Belinda/Flavia in Noises Off, Mâlynn in Steel Magnolias, Godspell, Cabaret, Les Miserables, multiple roles in He Died With a Falafel In His Hand, and as the title role in Peter Pan. Most recent credits include Jacinta in Immersed for the âWooden Legâ, and as Thug (a puppet monster) in The Magical Oak Tree (Gasworks/Melbourne Fringe).
Musically, her vocal styling has regularly warmed many Canberra music venues, singing original lyrics and interpretative covers live to compliment the music of DJ’s and musicians. Petra also performs her fiery and soulful original acoustic pieces with keyboard accompaniment, as seen at ‘Ladies at Play’. Petra was an artistic board member of BKu, and a founding member of Buzzing Productions (Contact Improvisation).
